"Thank you Freedom School!!! I first heard about the Freedom School program thru a friend. She had so many good things to say about it and she did not exaggerate. First, thank u to the leaders and teachers for taking the time to run this program. My sons wake up excited to go and have so many stories of the books they read, the songs they sang, & the new things they experienced and learned.  Their confidence has bloomed and they are more comfortable speaking out loud. This program has broadened their knowledge on culture, history and the importance of reading and understanding what they have read. Thank you Freedom school!
This is my second year participating in the Freedom School Program and I must say this program is much needed.  The program offers a safe learning environment, which allows children to openly express themselves while building character.  My child is one that fears reading because she struggles. With the help of the program she feels more confident to read more independently.  It is wonderful to leave your child somewhere they fill safe and are learning at the same time.  I hope this program stays available we appreciate everything it has to offer.  My daughter is thankful for the commitment, time and planning of activities which was given."

"My whole family is loving the Long Bach Freedom School program with Success and Challenges.  Our son is 12 years old. He is typically on the reserved and kind of shy side.  Our family had a few major transitions coming into 2019 that affected us all deeply, especially our son.  But since his enrollment in Freedom School, we have witnessed his shy side dissipate and his confidence boost just halfway through the program.  He is much more open and talkative at home than he had been coming into 2019.  His manners and attitude have even shifted a little bit which allow's us to be more free and easy with him too, an all around win!  Confidence and shifts towards greater maturity is how we'd sum that up.
If there were one thing we could change, we'd suggest the field trips be a little more afro-centric."  🙂

"My first time at freedom school was fun and enjoyable. I made new friends and learned a lot of new things that can help me in life. Some of those things i learned i could nake a difference in like immigration issues and adressing gun violence and many more. We read a lot of good books like the skin im in by Sharon G Flake.  Overall Freedom School is the best place ever not only to have fun but learn at the same time. Thank you!"

"My 7 year old daughter Artura Richardson has had an outstanding experience at Freedom School Long Beach. Eventhough she is usually not a early morning person, since she has been involved with Freedom she is up early  every morning ready to go and don't want be late. She is excited and thrilled about her teachers and every day she wants to talk about her experience of the day. Being at Freedom has bought her personality out and forward allot more than where it was before she joined the Freedom experience. She was never shy, but Freedom has giving her more confidence to speak, sing and dance in Public. I pray that the Childrens Fund will continue for years to come and make Freedom School bigger and better."

"Freedom school has been wonderful not just for myself and my daughter, but for my 10 nieces and nephews who have attended over the years as well. Freedom School provides the children with a sense of confidence that carries over into the regular school year. My daughter asks all year when Freedom School is starting again and that’s amazing. She’s come home this summer and asked about bullying because of a book she read and explained how she wants to help others and teach people to be kind to one another. That’s an amazing lesson for a 7 year old to want to teach others and we have Freedom School to thank."
